Ian Bird

Ian is originally from Charles Town, WV, and he earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Civil and Environmental Engineering from West Virginia University. During his master’s, his research focused on industrial-scale dewatering of Rare Earth Element (REE)-enriched Hydraulic Preconcentrate (HPC) produced at the Berkeley Pit in Butte, Montana. Ian is now working with the WVWRI Engineering team on watershed-scale Acid Mine Drainage (AMD) treatment systems and mine reclamation. Outside of work, he spends time outdoors and volunteers with the Mountaineer Area Rescue Group, a local search and rescue team, assisting in search and rescue operations throughout the region.
